About Compass Academy
Compass Academy is a public school of choice in Idaho Falls School District 91. We serve students in grades 9-12 and use a Project-Based Learning (PBL) model that embraces a learner-centered approach to Education. Project-Based Learning engages students in hands-on projects that promote in-depth learning and the development of critical thinking abilities. We are a member of a larger organization of PBL schools called the New Tech Network. The New Tech Network consists of more than 350 PBL schools in 37 states and Australia. Compass Academy is designated as a "Spotlight School" in the area of Supportive and Inclusive School Culture.
What does learning look like at Compass?
You will see clear evidence of students being active in their learning in our classrooms. They are standing and working at whiteboards, constructing things, working in groups, having class discussions, working independently on laptops, creating podcasts, movies, and plays, and demonstrating collaborative problem solving. Our classrooms and common areas have movable furniture and group-oriented tables to aide in student collaboration. The student common area, the Cyber Hall, is a beautiful open space that students can use to work on group projects, study, have club meetings, and host temporary project exhibits.
